A PIZZA GARDEN….Yeah, that’s right….

So… you want to plant a pizza garden eh?   Same here.  I wanted to.  So I did.  And that’s the first step to doing anything is just DOING IT.    Don’t just sit there and drool at pictures online–get up off the couch, do some research at your local garden center, ask for help if you need to, and plant a garden already!

I admit, the point of this blog is not to act like a know-it-all professional, but as an “every-man” who has been there, done that, learned the mistakes, and is here to share what I’ve learned with you.  So get motivated.  Be inspired.  And get out there and make something!

First of all, here are some awesome resources if you want to plant a #pizzagarden as well:SONY DSC

A pretty straight forward version: #Betterhomesandgardens: http://www.bhg.com/gardening/vegetable/vegetables/pizza-garden/

Something for the kids:  #NE4-H: http://lancaster.unl.edu/hort/youth/pizzagdn.shtml

And a little more creative approach: #HGTV: http://www.hgtvgardens.com/vegetable-garden/grow-a-pizza-garden                        (Now the last one is cute because the garden is ACTUALLY shaped like a pizza.  Yay!)

Now for some recipes to go with:

Pizza crust:                                                                                                                                                                                            https://theemptykitchen.wordpress.com/recipes/main-dishes-2/homemade-pizza-crust/

Classic Margherita Pizza Cups:  https://cookingdiarybyshruti.wordpress.com/2015/04/15/classic-margherita-pizza-cups/

Bok Choy and Mushroom Pizza:  http://boomercuisine.com/2012/06/21/bok-choy-and-mushroom-pizza/

Bok Choy, tomato, sweet banana peppers, sage…mmm…

Now later I will be adding my own recipes, but for now I’m sharing a few fellow word press users’ ideas.  Enjoy!

  1. Love it! Okay… Please know that this is not coming from a place of “Hey, I know things and you should listen to me.” This is coming from “I am a total fan-girl of X and can’t help but share my love.”
I don’t know what tomatoes you planted, but may I recommend planting a Cherokee Purple Tomato Plant or two? They are divine. Seriously. Favorite tomato ever. Joe actually got really irritated at me last summer when we were eating BLTs made with the Cherokee Purples because I would NOT STOP going on about how delightful they were. One of the best tomatoes I’ve ever had. Also – I looooove Pink Caspians for making sauce – they have a nice brightness to them that makes them a great base for chicken, fish or veggie-based pastas and pizzas. Love this blog – love the photos! Thanks for sharing – I am SURE I will be stealing some recipes! 🙂

    1. Thank you! They are actually San Marzano tomatoes that I purchased from Cirian’s Farmer’s Market in midtown Omaha.
I thought they’d be perfect sauce tomatoes! You can read more about them here:

As for more colorful topping options, I definitely have more room and tomato cages to plant some yellow and purple. I will definitely take your advice. Thanks for the suggestion! And as soon as I have some produce to harvest, pizza recipes will follow! Promise! 🙂
